Joseph M. Parrotta
KINGSFORD — Joseph M. Parrotta, 84, of Kingsford, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024, at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Caspian, son of the late Joseph and Mary Parrotta. Along with his parents, Joe was preceded in death by the love of his life of 60 years, Charlotte, and his brother (John) and sister (MaryAnn).
Joe is survived by his sister, Marguerite (Doug); his daughters, Lynn (Craig), Michelle (Chris), and Gina; his grandchildren, Brock (Yasmin), Emily (Jason), Jake, Josie (Andrew), and Trenton; and his great-grandchildren, Logan, Mason, Nolan, Hallie and one on the way. His great-grandchildren affectionately called him “Papa Joe”.
Anyone who knew Joe was aware that if he was told he couldn’t do something, he would try anyway. His completion of the Michigan State Police Academy was proof that you can accomplish anything if you are determined and work hard. Being a police officer was one of many jobs he experienced over the years. His favorite job and last employer was working for U.P. Special Delivery.
Joe was dependable, trustworthy, and relentlessly punctual; in fact, it was a running joke in the family as he often would be jingling the change in his pocket while he was waiting for his wife and three daughters to get ready to go. He would frequently say, “If you’re not 10 minutes early, you’re late.”
Joe’s favorite time was spent with family at the hunting camp that he and his son-in-law/best friend, Chris, built with their two hands 32 years ago (with help from his first grandson, Brock). He LOVED when the entire family would gather around the giant fire pit, sharing stories or playing spoons inside at the table he made from the wood on his property.
Joe, dad, brother, grandpa, Papa Joe, uncle, cousin and friend, will be deeply missed, and the memories and stories will live on through all who loved him.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Singh and staff at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center where Joe was treated “like a king” (his words), and Marshfield-Dickinson Hospice for their support.
Visitation will be held at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain, on Monday, Nov. 4, from 9 until 11:30 a.m. Services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Walter Reichle officiating. Burial will be at Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
