Peter Romitti Jr.
FLORENCE, Wis. — Peter Romitti Jr., 94, of Florence, Wis., passed away Monday, Oct. 21, 2024.
He was born Jan. 2, 1930, in Norway, son of the late Peter and Enricketta (Santoni) Romitti.
Peter started working at a young age, helping deliver milk with a horse and wagon. In his teens he started working at Doucette’s Garage in Niagara, Wis., where he learned many things from the owner, Al Doucette, about life and business.
After graduating from Niagara High School, he followed his brother’s path of service and joined the United States Navy. Both brothers, Roland and Carlo, served during World War II; Peter served from 1948-1950. Afterwards he returned to Niagara and continued to work for Doucette’s Garage before going to work for Kimberly Clark in Niagara.
In 1955 he started Romitti Well Drilling after a local driller could not get him water. Peter continued to work at the Niagara Paper Mill while operating Romitti Well Drilling until he retired from the paper mill in 1985. He operated Romitti Well Drilling until 2002 when the family business was passed to Jeremy Romitti.
Peter had many fond memories of working at the paper mill. He was proud the mill sent him to school to be an instrument engineer, and he enjoyed working there until his retirement. During his career as a well driller, he devised many new techniques and helped change and write the code for well drilling for the State of Wisconsin.
After he retired, he took up farming on his farm in Iron River where he met Rochelle Giannola. The pair enjoyed traveling, fishing, cooking and spending winters in Ariz. He enjoyed making wine and enjoying it with the people he spent time with.
Peter is survived by his significant other, Rochelle Giannola; three sons, Kevin (Casey Bussiere) Romitti of Iron Mountain, Jeremy Romitti of Niagara, and Barry (Mary) Romitti of Silver Cliff, Wis.; one sister, Lorice Meyer of Neenah, Wis.; four grandchildren, Mario Romitti, Nicko Romitti, Bruce Romitti and Elizabeth Romitti; 10 great-grandchildren; and his former wife, Janine (Farrington) Romitti.
He was preceded in death by one son, Randy Romitti; three grandsons, Chad Romitti, Angelo Romitti and Joshua Romitti; three brothers, Roland Romitti, Carlo Romitti, Jerry Romitti, and one sister, Clara Jean Track.
