Janice E. James
1942-2024
SAN MARCOS, Calif. — Janice E. James, 82, of San Marcos, Calif., passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2024, at Brookdale Senior Living in San Marcos.
Janice was born April 7, 1942, in Iron River, daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth (Hoinowski) Peterson. She grew up and attended school in Iron River, before residing in Menomonee Falls, Wis., and Hubertus, Wis.. She resided 62 years between the two cities before moving closer to her daughter in San Marcos.
Janice married Stanley Jack James on April 9, 1960, in Iron River. They celebrated 50 years of marriage before his passing on May 6, 2010.
Janice was a remarkable woman who brought joy and laughter to all who knew her. Her heart belonged to her late husband, Stanley, with whom she shared countless adventures as part of the Oldsmobile Club of America, celebrating their passion for classic vehicles.
Janice cherished her daughter, Linda and son-in-law, Tom, showering them with unwavering love and support. As a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother, she poured her love into every moment, creating cherished memories and leaving a legacy of warmth and love.
Janice shared that love with many friends that she considered family. She thoroughly enjoyed playing bingo and taking an occasional trip to the casino to play the slots. Janice’s love and generosity will always be remembered.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda (Tom) Tillmann of San Marcos; one brother, Alan Peterson; three grandchildren, Stephanie English, Nicole Guerra, and Zachary Tillmann; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Stanley, Janice was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Peterson.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 7, from 1:30 until 3 p.m. at the Jacobs-Plowe Funeral Home in Crystal Falls. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the spring at Evergreen Cemetery in Crystal Falls.
