Douglas Alexander
IRON MOUNTAIN — Douglas Arthur Alexander passed away on July 8, 2024, in Iron Mountain.
Doug was born in Detroit, on Sept. 22, 1942. He and his family moved to Iron Mountain, in his younger years; there he grew up and returned after the Vietnam War.
Doug received the following awards in the Vietnam War for his courage and skills: National Defense Service Medal, two Bronze Star Medals, Army Commendation Medal, Crossed Rifles, U.S. Army Combat Infantryman Badge, Army Expert Shooting, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 Bronze Campaign Stars, 2 Overseas Service Bars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Unit Palm Citation Badge.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Alice Alexander, and his sisters, Delores “Dee”Calcatera and Helen “Joanne” Pellegrini.
He is survived by his sister, Lois Alexander.
The family is having a public graveside service at Norway Township Cemetery in Norway, at noon on Friday, Sept. 13, with the committal prayers starting at 12:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in Doug’s name to the Almost Home Animal Shelter, 5060 Lincoln Ave., Quinnesec MI 49876. Doug loved Reba, his dog, and taking long walks with her on the trails near his home.
