LONG LAKE, Wis. — Lonnie L. Nowak, 85, of Long Lake, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024, at Aspirus Iron River Hospital.

He was born on March 14, 1938, in Milwaukee, the son of the late Lymen and Stella (Smith) Nowak. Lonnie attended Florence, Wis., Schools and graduated. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, working as an aircraft mechanic.

Lonnie married Audrey “Jeannie” Schaefer on May 12, 1962, in Waukesha, Wis. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary in 2023.

He was a self-employed logger before retirement.

Lonnie was a member of the DAV. He was the Long Lake Town Supervisor for 12 years and the co-founder of the Halsey Lake Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and flying and was the co-owner of a Cessna 150.

Lonnie is survived by his wife, Audrey; sons, Michael J. Nowak of Long Lake and Clifford L. Nowak of Weatherford, Texas; daughter, Meljean (Jerry) Bultman of Irma, Wis.; grandchildren, Jeremy, Kelly and Cassie; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Bernie (Jodie) Nowak of Montana; sister, Sandy Krajewski of Pulaski, Wis.; brother-in-law, Rocky Schaefer of Waukesha; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Roger Nowak.

Private family services will be held.

Interment will be in Long Lake Cemetery.
