Jacob T. “Jack” Jacobs
IRON MOUNTAIN — Jacob T. “Jack” Jacobs, 94, of Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Ironwood, passed away Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at Inspired Living at Lakewood Ranch in Bradenton.
He was born on March 3, 1929, son of the late John and Doris (Dascola) Jacobs. Jack grew up in Iron Mountain, and graduated from Iron Mountain High School, Class of 1947. He attended Northland College in Ashland, Wis. While attending Northland, Jack opened his own Army/Navy surplus store in 1950, which helped fund his college education and that of his two brothers, Don and Paul, who also worked in the store and became a medical doctor and orthodontist, respectively. The legacy of this store has carried forward under the current business in Ashland known as Moore’s Army/Navy. Jack continued his education by enrolling at the University of Wisconsin Law School, obtaining his Juris Doctor in 1954.
Following graduation from law school, Jack moved to Ironwood, and joined a law practice with the late Charles Santini. The firm grew over five decades and remains as Jacobs, McDonald & Silc, P.C. in Ironwood.
Jack married Marion J. Eriksen on Nov. 4, 1950, at the Congregational Presbyterian Church in Ashland.
Jack was an active member of St. Simon Orthodox Church of Ironwood and St. Barbara Orthodox Church of Bradenton. While living in Ironwood, Jack served on numerous boards and civic organizations, including Kiwanis. He also served as both president and a board member for the Ironwood Area School District and Gogebic Community College. He was the founding member of the Gogebic Community College Foundation, which remains today.
Jack enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing on the North Branch of the Paint River, where he would go with his father, brothers, two sons, grandsons and nephews. Jack was especially proud of his Lebanese and Italian heritage.
Survivors include his loving wife of 73 years, Marion Jacobs; two sons, Nicholas (Joy) Jacobs of Ironwood and Dr. Barry (Mollie) Jacobs of Washburn, Wis.; two daughters, Lila (Dewy) Swick of Norwood, Colo., and Patti Bonacci of Henderson, Nev.; one brother, Dr. Donald (Sally) Jacobs of Iron Mountain; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Lorraine Jacobs of Iron Mountain; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Jim Bonacci; and one brother, Dr. Paul Jacobs.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, at St. Mary Orthodox Church. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Fr. Mark Hagan will officiate.
A funeral mercy meal will take place after the service at the church.
Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery in Crystal Falls in the spring.
