Randy Hamby

ANCHORAGE — Randy Hamby of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away Sept. 16, 2023, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Randy was filled with the love of his Jesus Christ, our Lord. He was born Dec. 11, 1950, to Donald S. and Florence Hamby.

Randy graduated from Channing High School in 1969. Then he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1969 to 1973.

He then was employed at Hanna Groveland Mine. After the mine closure, he was employed at RMS in Iron Mountain for many years. Then he went north to Alaska and was employed at Airport Equipment Rentals, Coast Crane Co. and Jackovich Industrial Hardware.

After his retirement he started his own business “Cherokee Chainsaw.”

Randy filled his retirement with going to the cabin where family and friends would visit. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking, cooking and can jams, jellies and veggies. He was very generous and willing to help others.

Randy and Nancy Amend were reunited in 1999 and married in 2014.

Randy is survived by his wife, Nancy; mother, Florence Hamby of Randville; three daughters, Kate Hamby of Iron Mountain, Alisa (Tony) of Hawaii and Anchorage, and Anita (Jared) of Anchorage; one sister, Deb Miller of Randville; three brothers, Rod (Cheryl) Hamby, Ron (Penny) Hamby, both of Iron Mountain, and Dennis (Kelly) Hamby of Foster City; sisters-in-law, Gail Hamby of Randville, and Jonnie (Sue) Lynch of Eagle River, Alaska; many grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and special friends Don and Karla Ruhoff of Casswell Lakes, Alaska.

Randy was preceded in death by his father, Donald S. Hamby of Randville; brother, Donald G. Hamby of Randville; brother-in-law, Bob Miller of Randville; mother and father-in-law, Oliver Sr. and Cissy Amend of Hawaii; and a sister-in-law, Susie Lynch of Anchorage, Alaska.

There will be no funeral services locally. A funeral was held for Randy in Alaska.
