Olindo L. Basso

Olindo was born on Jan. 26, 1934, in Iron Mountain, the son of the late Christina Tondello Basso and Orlando Basso. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School and served in the United States Army for two years, then re-enlisting in the Air Force for an additional 20 years.

In 1966, while stationed in Illinois, he met and married the love of his life, Mary (Mills) Basso. They were married 54 years until her passing in 2020.

After retiring from the military, he worked at the VA Hospital in Iron Mountain for 12 years.

He loved to garden and took great pride in growing beautiful vegetables and spending time outdoors and chatting with family and friends.

He also loved winter traveling to warm destinations with his wife, daughter and family friend Judy Phelps, Jamaica being his favorite. He loved to golf, often being the first one on the course.

Olindo is survived by a daughter, Adonia (Steve) Finendale; sister, Arlene Basso Stray; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; and sister, Shirley Basso Forstrom.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 11, at Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
