Bruce C. Burkman
KINGSFORD — Bruce C. Burkman, 84, of Kingsford, died on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, in Green Bay, Wis.
He was born on April 16, 1938, in Norway to the late George and Jeanette (Gedvick) Burkman. Bruce was a graduate of Felch High School. On July 22, 1961, he was married to Bonnie L. Carlson.
After they were married Bruce was drafted into the U.S. Army on Aug. 28, 1961, serving in active duty for two years and reserve for another four years. Bruce worked as a truck driver for Wittock Supply for over 30 years but ultimately retired from U.P. Special Delivery in 2003. His most recent passion was for his volunteer work at the VA.
Bruce was an outdoorsman at heart and loved to spend time hunting, gardening, and, in his younger years, fishing. On a less ambitious day he enjoyed trips to the casino or watching golf. Due to a unique fascination with lawn tractors, Bruce was never able to pass up a look when he found one out for sale. Above all, Bruce loved his family and will always be remembered for his hard work ethic and heart of gold.
Bruce will be missed by his son, Craig (Karen) Burkman; granddaughter, Ashley Burkman (Josh Wetsel); great-granddaughter, Chloe Wetsel; brother, Vernon Burkman; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, John (Karyn) Carlson, Evelyn Burkman, Janice Martinson, and Kathy Carlson; and many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Bruce is preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Burkman; three brothers, Maynard, DeWayne, and Malvern Burkman; and three infant brothers, Keith, Robert, and Allan Burkman.
Visitation will be at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. on Friday, April 29, with Rev. Jim Danielson officiating the memorial service at 11:30 a.m at the funeral home. Interment will be in Foster City Cemetery.
Special thanks to the staff at the Oscar G. Johnson VAMC for all the excellent care throughout the years.
