Robert G. Anderson

Robert was born on Aug. 28. 1942, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Robert and Isabelle (Davis) Anderson. He was raised in Aurora and was a 1960 graduate of Kingsford High School.

After high school, Robert worked construction in the Chicago area until he was drafted into military service in 1964. He served in Vietnam with the United States Army until his honorable discharge in 1966.

Following his discharge from the service he reconnected with Caroline Lindgren from Kingsford, with whom he had been corresponding with during his time in the service. They were married on June 29, 1968, in Kingsford, eventually settling in Cicero, Ill., where Robert earned a degree in industrial engineering from IIT while working for Industrial Paper. In 1972, Robert and Caroline purchased a home on the north side of Elmhurst, Ill., where they raised their boys, John and Jeff, and lived for the next 30 years.

Robert went on to work at the Chicago-based sister companies Metal Box, Division Lead, and Pincor, departing there after roughly 25 years of service as their VP of manufacturing. In 2003, they relocated to Buffalo Grove, Ill., to be closer to Robert’s work at Walgreens headquarters. He retired in 2008 and moved back to Iron Mountain.

Robert enjoyed a lifelong interest in reading and learning about technology, having purchased his first personal computer in the mid-1970s. While living in Illinois, he and Caroline would enjoy frequent visits back to the U.P. to visit family and friends. He enjoyed learning new things, fabricating useful items with his engineering and welding skills, coin hunting with his metal detector, shooting guns, and exploring the backroads on his motorcycle.

Robert also had a lifelong interest in music, with a passion for playing and recording songs on the guitar, electronic keyboard, accordion, and banjo. In his later years he took up an interest in nature photography. He loved being outdoors in the woods and spending time at the family homestead in Aurora. Above everything else, Robert was a kind and devoted husband and father, who loved his family more than anything.

Robert is survived by his wife, Caroline; sons John (Amy) Anderson of Lombard and Jeffrey (Christin) Anderson of Franklin, Tenn.; sister Jeanette Deldin of Florida; grandchildren Henry and Sage Anderson, Austin and Cole Anderson; nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

Private family services will be held.

Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora Cemetery.
