Terry “Mac” McDermott
IRON MOUNTAIN — Terry “Mac” McDermott, 81, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Friday, Nov. 20, 2020, at Maryhill Manor Nursing Home in Niagara.
Terry was born Feb. 13, 1939, in Detroit, Mich., son of the late Clarence and Ival (Fine) McDermott. He grew up in the Detroit area and after high school, he enlisted into the Army National Guard.
He married the love of his life, Beverly Foster, on June 5, 1965.
Terry attended barber school and owned his own shop in Detroit for many years. He was also employed at General Motors for over 10 years before he and his closest friend, who also happened to be his brother Rod, purchased Pro Golf Discount in Ann Arbor, Mich. and operated it for over 10 years. In 2003, he retired to this area to be closer to his family, the center of his life.
Terry was a member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Church of Kingsford.
He was an avid pool player and belonged to many leagues.
He was also a passionate collector and loved to frequent thrift shops and local garage sales.
Terry’s favorite pastime was watching his grandchildren in all their sports and activities. He never missed and was their biggest fan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Rodney, and his stepfather, Carl Magnee.
Terry is survived by his wife, Beverly; daughters, Debby (Jerry Roberge) Wahoviak of Kingsford and Kelly Burgess of Iron Mountain; grandchildren Cole Wahoviak, Luke Wahoviak, Molly Wahoviak, Jack Burgess and Samuel (Jayde Peterson) Burgess; and nephews Kevin (Ann Marie) McDermott and Mickey McDermott.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date.
Burial will be at Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
The family has entrusted Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home of Iron Mountain with the arrangements.
