KINGSFORD — Michael L. Moroni, 80, of Kingsford, passed away, Saturday, Nov. 21, 2020, at Dickinson County Health Services in Iron Mountain.

Mike was born on Nov. 4, 1940, in Norway, son of the late Louis and Gertrude (Neldberg) Moroni. He was a lifelong resident of Kingsford and graduated from Kingsford High School, class of 1958.

Mickey married Mary Berutti on Aug. 27, 1960, at American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford, with the reception held at the Dickinson Inn in Iron Mountain.

He was a very active member of American Martyrs and was a server from his early childhood through his 80 years.

Mickey was proud to have graduated with the first class of the American Martyrs Catholic School in Kingsford, and was proud to be the first one to be baptized at the church by Fr. Hughes.

Mickey was a very ambitious builder and entrepreneur and was proud to have been involved in many local businesses.

He was the founder of Evergreen Senior Living, Kingsford, which is owned and operated by his family today.

Mickey, along with his wife Mary, wintered in Bonita Springs, Fla., where they were both active members in the Vasari Country Club community.

He served on the First Bank Advisory Board for many years. Mickey was a 50-plus year member of the Pine Grove Country Club, Iron Mountain, the Chippewa Club in Iron Mountain, and 678 Club.

He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, along with his wife Mary, and being part of the “Bridge Club” throughout their married life.

He enjoyed hunting and built a camp for his family to continue his passion.

Mickey was an avid Kingsford Flivver Fan and never missed a home or away game.

In the hearts and minds of his family members, he left behind a work ethic that can only be taught by example; a yearning to carry on his legacy.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Mary; two daughters, Jane Moroni of Kingsford, and Jennifer (Chip) Anderson of Kingsford, and their children, Michael and Ben; one brother, Thomas (Michael) Moroni of Woodbury, Minn.; one sister, Jill (Robert) Imel of Sagola Township.
