IRON MOUNTAIN — Joe E. Warren, 84, of Breitung Township, passed away on Thursday, April 23, 2020, at home, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Joe was born June 17, 1935 in Prescott, Ariz., son of the late Eugene H. and Josephine A. (Negro) Warren. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1953 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Michigan College of Mining & Technology in Houghton (Michigan Tech University) where he was a member of the Kappa Delta Psi fraternity.
Following his graduation from college, Joe served his country in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged as a captain in 1958. He married Sharon Bevilacqua on April 26, 1958 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain.
Joe took a position with R.G. Joiner Company in 1960 and served as vice president until 1985 when he acquired the company. Joe continued to operate the company as President until his retirement in 1996.
He was a member of St. Mary Queen of Peace Church in Kingsford and frequently attended mass at the Carmelite Monastery. Joe was also a member of the Chippewa Club and the Elks Club where he served as exalted ruler and club president. He sat on the museum board of directors for the Menominee Range Historical Society.
Joe was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating and cutting firewood. He frequently took ATV rides through the neighborhood to keep an eye on things as he was known by many as ‘The Mayor’ of Harding Park Drive. Most of all, Joe loved spending time with his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Joe is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sharon; children, Mona Warren Goodyear of Parker, Colo., Jean (Richard) Rubbo of The Woodlands, Texas, Therese (Dale) Gantt of Missouri City, Texas, Ann (Thomas) Pericolosi of Breitung Township, Joseph (fiance Julie Laverty) Warren of Stillwater, Minn., and Michael (Cindee) Warren of Green Bay, Wis.; 14 grandchildren, Jacob (Colby) Rubbo, Jaclyn (Aron) Satre, Annelise Rubbo, Dane and Angela Gantt, Jim (Donna) Pericolosi, Tony Pericolosi, Abby (Bryan) Baumgartner, Kathryn, Andrew and Emily Warren, Lily, Micah and Annabel Warren; five great-grandchildren, Sullivan and Evans Rubbo, Sophia and Luca Pericolosi, and Julian Baumgartner; many nieces, nephews and cousins; and his furry friend, Penny.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother, Gene A. Warren.
A visitation followed by a funeral mass at St. Mary Queen of Peace Church in Kingsford will be announced when restrictions on public gatherings are lifted. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
The Warren family would like to thank Dr. Morel, Michelle Morel and staff, especially nurses Jim, Casey and Erica for Joe’s care over the past four years. Thank you to OSF Hospice for the excellent care they provided during his final three weeks of life.
