Cynthia L. Wicklund

IRON MOUNTAIN — Cynthia L. “Cindy” Wicklund, 60, of Iron Mountain passed away Monday, Aug. 26, 2019, at her home.

She was born Sep. 13, 1958, in Ishpeming, daughter of William Laurila and the late Ina Poland. Cindy graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1976 and was a lifelong resident of the area.

She married David Wicklund on April 20, 1989, in Denver.

Cindy enjoyed the little things in life, like taking a drive on a sunny day, watching her favorite shows, reading a good book, and staying outside until the sun went down. She liked camping with her family, cheering for the Green Bay Packers, and trying out new recipes in the kitchen. But above all else, Cindy loved her family and friends with all her heart and loved nothing more than spending time with loved ones.

Unfailingly kind thoughtful and genuine, Cindy always saw the best in people. She brought light and joy into the lives of her family, friends and those around her. She was happiest when she was helping others and would do anything just to make her loved ones happy.

She was always selfless, even when she was the one that needed the most help.

Cindy went through more in the past several years than anyone should ever have to bear. These include a ruptured brain aneurysm resulting in multiple emergency surgeries, breast cancer, interstitial lung disease, small cell lung cancer, and spinal fusion.

Cindy never gave up, she never stopped fighting, and she faced it all head-on with an unbelievable amount of courage and grace. Until her last day, she was the best mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend she could be. Cindy will be greatly missed, but she will live on in the hearts of anyone lucky enough to have been a part of her life.

She is survived by her husband, David Wicklund; her son, Kyle (Mackenzie) Wicklund of Norton Shores; her daughter, Carlye Wicklund of Iron Mountain; her father, William Laurila and step-mother, Anita Laurila of Spread Eagle, Wis.; her brother, Robert Laurila of Toledo, Ohio; her sister, Tina Laurila of Denver; her stepbrother, Patrick (Debbie) Felts of Jacksonville; and two stepsisters, Pamela (Doug) Maule of Iron Mountain and Ruth Ann Laurila of Mesa, Ariz.

In addition to her mother, Cindy was preceded in death by a brother, William Laurila Jr.

Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31 at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.

Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Cindy’s brother, Bob Laurila will officiate the Celebration of Life.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
