West Iron selects top 10 in Class of 2025

JACKSON STROM

IRON RIVER — West Iron County High School has chosen its top 10 seniors in the Class of 2025.

They are —

— Jackson Strom of Iron River, son of Erik and Courtney Strom, is valedictorian of the Class of 2025. He has maintained a 4.0 grade-point average.

He is a member of the National Honor Society and has been involved in varsity tennis for four years, as well as Forest Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Outside of school, he serves as a ski patroller, works on the volunteer crew at Covenant Point Bible Camp and is very active in his church community. He also co-owns a landscaping business with his siblings.

JULIA SWENSKI

Strom plans to study biology and pursue a career in the medical field at the University of Michigan.

— Julia Swenski of Iron River is the daughter of Jeffrey and Stephanie Swenski.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, has been on the A Honor Roll for four years, has been accepted to Northern Michigan University Honors Program, received the Wildcat Merit Scholarship along with other scholarships from NMU, and has received the College Board Rural and Small Town Award.

Swenski has participated in Art Club, Forest Club, Spanish Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes; is a part of the yearbook staff; and has been both a member of the girls basketball team and a statistician for the football team for four years.

She has volunteered at various events and organizations with the NHS, volunteered at the Iron County Ice Arena, worked closely with youth at the West Iron District Library and attends the Cornerstone Fellowship Church.

KEENAN DOBSON-DONATI

Swenski plans to pursue a degree in elementary education at Northern Michigan University.

— Keenan Dobson-Donati of Iron River is the son of Nikki McPherson and John Donati.

Dobson-Donati participated in the National Honor Society and receiving an Iron Area Health Foundation Award of Excellence.

He has played basketball, football and tennis; and was a member of Forest Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Dobson-Donati plans to obtain a degree in civil engineering at the University of Michigan.

EILEY MESKE

— Eiley Meske of Iron River is the daughter of Ryan and Kristen Meske.

Meske has earned accolades on both national and regional levels over the course of her time in high school. Some of these accomplishments include: The Society of Women Engineers Michigan Technological University Chapter Certificate of Merit, Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association GPA Award, National Society of High School Scholars Award of Excellence, Congress of Future Medical Leaders Award of Excellence, College Board National Rural and Small Town Recognition Program, president of the local National Honor Society, Dean’s List Fall of 2024 at Bay De Noc Community College, and First Runner-Up Miss Iron County 2023.

She has had the privilege of participating in several extracurricular activities. She is president of student council and the senior class. Meske also enjoys participating in volleyball, where she was team captain; Fellowship of Christian Athletes; and the track and field team.

Within the community, she is a member of the Italian Ladies Society, St. Agnes Church Choir and the Iron Area Health Foundation Student Leadership Team.

Meske plans to study human biology with a pre-medicine minor at Michigan Technological University, then go on to an accredited medical school to become a physician.

ABIGAIL FARLEY

— Abigail Farley of Gaastra is the daughter of Jerry and Julia Farley.

Farley has been recognized for her academic achievements, including being named Student of the Week at WIC High School, Student of the Month in graphic communications at the Dickinson-Iron Intermediate School District Tech Center and earning the Outstanding Student Award in Multimedia Productions.

She is actively involved in her school community through her participation in symphony, Art Club and Quiz Bowl.

Farley also volunteers in the Sunday School program at the Cornerstone Fellowship Church.

She plans to pursue a business administration degree at Bay College while working full-time at CoVantage Credit Union.

KAYLEE ROSENGREN

— Kaylee Rosengren of Iron River is the daughter of Kevin and Sharon Rosengren.

She is a part of the National Honor Society and has received the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association-Individual Academic All State Award.

She has participated in basketball, volleyball and track; been student council treasurer and class treasurer; been involved in Key Club and Forest Club; and was part of the Iron River Parks and Recreation Committee.

Rosengren plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Bellin College in Green Bay, Wis.

— Rocky Farley of Gaastra is the son of Jerry and Julia Farley.

He is a member of the National Honor Society, student council, Forest Club and was named Student of the Week. He was part of the West Iron Quiz Bowl team that placed first and fourth at the National Tournament in Chicago last year.

Farley played tennis for two years and football for one. He has volunteered more than 40 hours for the community for NHS, and he is an active member at his church. He volunteers in the Sunday School program and is a musician.

He plan to get an associate’s degree in business at Bay De Noc Community College, then transfer to Lake Superior State University to get his bachelor’s degree in business administration. Farley then intends to enroll to obtain his master’s of business administration. He will continue working as a manager at McDonald’s during and after college.

— Haylie Murillo of Iron River is the daughter of Tim and Cheryl Murillo.

She has been vice president of her class and was actively involved in student council and National Honor Society. Through NHS, Murillo has volunteered in food drives, served at the senior center and helped at the animal shelter.

Murillo has participated in Forest Club, volleyball, track and basketball; refereed in soccer; and taken photos for the yearbook.

She has been recognized as Student of the Week and received a Certificate of Merit from the Michigan Tech Society of Women Engineers for her accomplishments in STEM.

Murillo plans to pursue a degree in general engineering at Michigan Technological University.

— Kaeden Golliher of Iron River is the son of Steven and Gina Golliher.

Throughout high school, Golliher worked academically each semester to make the honor roll. He is a member of the Forest Club and the Yearbook Committee and also active in various vocational classes and enjoys hands-on projects. Golliher has worked within the community by volunteering at local events and helping people in need.

He plans to pursue his commercial driver’s license and work in the family business after graduation.

— Gracyn Melstrom of Iron River is the daughter of parents Daniel Melstrom and Nikki Mantsch and stepparents Jessica Melstrom and Thomas Mantsch.

Melstrom has participated in volleyball, golf, student council, symphony and National Honor Society.

She has worked up a love for science, so plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing at Bellin College toward her end goal of becoming a pediatric nurse practitioner.

West Iron County High School will have graduation ceremonies at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 23, followed by an all-night graduation party starting at 8:30 p.m.
