Spring rubbish collection begins Monday in Kingsford

KINGSFORD — The City of Kingsford will begin collecting spring rubbish Monday.

Collection will start in the Ford Addition, then proceed to the Heights, Garden Village, Breitung and outlying area. The city will do one pass and charge a minimum of $100 for making special collections.

Loose lawn material must be placed at the edge of the street behind the curb or street edge. Other items must be placed at the edge of the street or alley where refuse is normally collected. Items for collection should be properly separated. Don’t place piles next to buildings or behind buildings, fences, power poles or other obstructions.

Limbs and brush must be neatly piled separately and cut in lengths of 6 to 8 feet. Only normal yard material will be collected. Grass, leaves and garden waste must by piled separately or in bags not exceeding 32 gallons or 50 pounds.

All large metal items must be separated from other rubbish and will be recycled. No appliances with refrigerant will be accepted, such as freezers, refrigerators, dehumidifiers and air conditioners.

Large furniture such as chairs, tables, sofas, beds and mattresses must be separated from other rubbish items. Carpeting must be rolled up and no longer than 4 feet in length.

Concrete must be broken up into pieces approximately 1 foot square and piled separately, with a limit of one cubic yard. Building materials can be collected with weekly garbage collection, but the city will not collect waste from total demolitions or waste from construction or reconstruction of buildings.

Tires, waste oil, gasoline and hazardous or toxic waste such as oil, paint, antifreeze and other chemicals will not be collected. For information regarding disposal of these items, call the Dickinson county Solid Waste Facility at 906-774-5680.

The city’s compost site, for city residents only, is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays through Nov. 1.

Starting at $3.50/week.
