School board, town races in Florence County
TOWN OF AURORA: Tony McCarthy, with 214 votes, was elected chairperson over Fredrick J. Harvath, 156 votes. Winning seats as supervisors were incumbent Gary Moore, 247 votes, and Elise Neuens, 243 votes. Supervisor candidate Mark S. Sullivan finished out of the running with 107 votes.
TOWN OF COMMONWEALTH: Terry Priddy was elected chairperson over Amy E. Wellnitz, 93 to 45. Michael Bednarski received 23 votes as a write-in to fill a supervisor’s seat formerly held by Priddy.
TOWN OF FLORENCE: Two supervisor races were closely contested. Challenger Tom Tuchalski defeated incumbent John Holbrook, 393 to 360. Incumbent Shane McClain turned back challenger Jim Petroff, 406 to 388.
TOWN OF FENCE: Frank Smith, 53 votes, won the chairperson’s race against incumbent James McClain, 40 votes. Teresa Smith was elected clerk-treasurer over incumbent Samantha Pyrcz, 66 to 25.
TOWN OF TIPLER: Incumbent Clerk-Treasurer Amanda Harvat defeated challenger Linda Nichols, 63 to 23. In a contested supervisor’s race, the count showed
incumbent Charles Nichols with 32 votes and challenger Kathy Netzel with 31 votes.
TOWN OF LONG LAKE: No candidates were on the ballot for clerk. Joe Hurst, who was elected chairperson without opposition with 93 votes, received three write-in votes for clerk. Amanda Mulvey received two write-ins for clerk. The town’s website lists Hurst as the incumbent clerk. Four other write-in votes for clerk were reported.
