Phelps Maple Syrup Fest planned on Saturday

PHELPS, Wis. — Phelps Maple Syrup Fest is back on Saturday and will be sweet as ever.
Activities run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Phelps School, 4451 Old School Road. Eventgoers can pick up maps and punch cards for self-guided tours featuring four local sugarbushes where visitors can witness maple syrup production in action and learn more about the process from local producers.
The Maple Cafe will offer maple treats, as well as full breakfast from Sunrise Lodge and lunch from the Lions Club.
A variety of maple syrup activities for all ages is planned for the fest. Attendees can experience hands-on tree tapping; make maple taffy; attend a demonstrations on syrup, honey and beekeeping and cooking with syrup by The Tipsy Housewife; Arts and Crafts Fair with face painting. The craft show will offer any unique handmade items, notes a coordinator.
The popular syrup judging contest will take place with local celebrity judges including NBC Meteorologist Devin Biggs. Producers can enter their syrup to see how it stacks up against the competition in hopes to win the Maple Syrup of the Year. They encourage large and small producers to enter. Maple syrup produced in Phelps, the Maple Syrup capitol of Wisconsin, will be sold at each sugarbush and the fest with $1 from each bottle going towards the scholarship fund. Completed tour punch cards will be entered into a drawing for prizes.
Phelps Maple Syrup Fest continues to grow and has attracted thousands of visitors while celebrating the heritage and history of maple syrup production in the area.
The Phelps Chamber of Commerce invited local businesses to consider becoming a sponsor or volunteer. They noted that help is needed for a variety of areas.
