Four injured when pickup hits buggy

RIVERLAND — Four people were injured, two critically, when a pickup truck hit an Amish buggy Saturday in Delta County.

Deputies were dispatched about 3:28 p.m. to the Riverland area on 18th Road near H.25 Road, where they found both the truck and buggy were eastbound on 18th Road when the truck struck the horse-drawn buggy, the Delta County Sheriff’s Department stated in a news release.

All four female passengers in the buggy were injured. As of Sunday, one has been treated and released from the hospital, while three remain hospitalized, two in critical condition and one in stable condition.

The male driver of the pickup truck had no injuries.

The crash remains under investigation. The sheriff’s office is being assisted by the Michigan State Police’s Accident Reconstructionist.
