Equalized values for property in Iron County rise 7.22%

CRYSTAL FALLS — Iron County’s total equalized property value for 2025 grew to $1.09 billion, an increase of $73 million, or 7.22%.

In her annual report to the county board Tuesday, Equalization Director Amy Bucek said the taxable value rose 5.23% to $727 million, after a 7.45% increase in 2024.

Bucek said that in previous years when veterans exemptions were granted, the values were removed so it gave a more accurate depiction of what would be used for the tax base. The actual taxable value of the county that taxes will be levied against is $717 million.

The equalization office analyzed 505 sales in the past two years and conducted 495 appraisals.

A contributing factor to the increase in property values is a strong real estate market, Bucek said.

The inflation rate cap on taxable value fell to 1.031%. For the previous two years the cap had been set at 5%, the most that is allowed under Michigan’s Proposal A.
