Changes approved for two IM intersections

IRON MOUNTAIN — Yield signs will be changed to stop signs at two Iron Mountain intersections as a result of a traffic control order approved by the city council.

The changes were requested by Jeff Solka, director of police and fire services, who in recent months has made a number of recommendations to bring signage into compliance with the Michigan Manual for Uniform Traffic Control.

Under the new order:

— Yield signs on Ludington Street approaching South Foster Street will be changed to stop signs. This is the only intersection on Ludington Street that currently has yield signs, Solka said.

— Yield signs on Washington Street approaching East C Street will be changed to stop signs. East C is a busy street that often gets congested with parked vehicles, Solka said. In addition to the sign change, the city will add painted crosswalk markings along with “no parking here to corner” signs.

“I have received several calls and requests for review of this intersection to attempt to make it safer for children in the neighborhood,” Solka said.

Starting at $3.50/week.
