Breitung board hears playground plans for Antoine Park
QUINNESEC — The Breitung Township Board heard details Monday on the Lake Antoine Park Partners’ plans to install ADA-compliant, all-inclusive playground equipment at the park.
In recent years the LAPP has raised $300,000 for park improvements and events that bring people into the park, such as the beach wall, kayak launch, wi-fi cafe, improvements to the campground store and the Sunset Beach project, the group’s Ann Hruska told the board.
The Sunset Beach project improved accessibility with a newly paved surface in front of the beach house and ADA-compliant picnic benches.
The new all-inclusive equipment will be integrated into the existing playground and will include two play structures where those in wheelchairs won’t need to transfer from their mobility device to use.
The project will include 3,100 square feet of synthetic turf for maximum safety and accessibility. Plans also include revamped accessible parking and a path connecting the playground to the beach house restrooms and sunset viewing area.
The project has a $400,000 budget, with$100,000 raised to date through grants and donations, Hruska said. LAPP hopes to install the equipment after the summer season.
In other business, the board:
— Approved Breitung Township Schools using the pavilion at Quinnesec Park for its summer food service program, which was halted during the COVID-19 pandemic due to low attendance. Free meals will be made available to children age 18 and younger or persons up to age 26 who are enrolled in an educational program for the mentally or physically disabled that is recognized by a state or local public educational agency.
— Authorized Superintendent Steve Mulka to negotiate a contract with Photos by Emily to continue providing images for the new website. Photos by Emily proposed a $1,200 contract for six months; however, the board would like an eight-month term to get some fall and winter events.
— Approved hiring two probationary firefighters, Darsalle Hayes and Giovanni Colavecchi.
— Heard Officer Mike Bronzyk assure concerned citizen Dennis Zeeb that a property on Eskil Avenue would soon be cleaned up.
