Bay College and Borderland Arts announce gallery partnership

Becca Langlais’ painting “Spring” will be on display at the new Iron Mountain Community Gallery as part of an exhibit that opens on Tuesday.

IRON MOUNTAIN — Bay College Iron Mountain Campus and Borderland Arts are launching the Iron Mountain Community Gallery as an addition to the city’s arts and culture community.

This partnership brings together local talent and diverse artistic voices from Wisconsin and Michigan, offering a new space for the community to engage with contemporary art.

The inaugural exhibition, “Spring Renewal: A Contemporary Look into Spring in Michigan,” will open from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Bay College Iron Mountain campus.

The exhibition will feature works from members of Borderland Arts, a creative collective, including Debbie Eichhorn, Becca Langlais, Lauren Rice, Carol Schultz, Darlene Strand, Kristin Underhill, and Sara Westcott.

The theme of “Spring Renewal” invites visitors to explore how artists interpret the season of growth, rebirth, and fresh beginnings through the lens of Michigan’s unique landscapes.

The gallery will showcase a range of artistic styles and mediums, from vibrant abstract works to intricate pen-and-ink drawings, offering a contemporary take on the beauty of spring in the region.

“We are incredibly excited to open the Iron Mountain Community Gallery and highlight the talent of Borderland Arts members,” said Kristine Hunter, Fine Arts coordinator for Bay College. “This partnership with Borderland Arts creates a valuable resource for our community, providing both an exhibition space and an opportunity to foster creativity and connections through the arts.”

The evening will feature light refreshments provided by Crispignas Italian Market and musical accompaniment by local bass player Dave Falls, creating a soothing, melodic backdrop for the event.

Visitors can meet the artists, learn about their work, and hear the stories behind their creative processes.

The Iron Mountain Community Gallery aims to serve as a cultural hub for the region, providing a platform for established and emerging artists to showcase their work and connect with the community.

The exhibition is free and open to the public, offering an opportunity to experience local talent and celebrate the creative spirit of the Upper Peninsula.
