IRON MOUNTAIN — Thursday is the first day of spring, but winter is taking the upper hand with a storm warning in effect starting at 11 a.m. today.

Heavy snow may fall in the central Upper Peninsula, the National Weather Service said. Four to 8 inches is expected through early Thursday in the Iron Mountain area, with north winds gusting up to 35 mph.

“Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility,” forecasters said. “Prepare for difficult travel conditions and potential power outages.”

Thursday should turn sunny, with a high near 38, NWS said. Winds, however, are still expected to gust up to 30 mph.
