Rain, snow, freezing rain in forecast
IRON MOUNTAIN — A wintry mix of rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow may be headed to the Upper Peninsula beginning Friday morning, the National Weather Service said.
Freezing rain and rain is expected Friday, turning to mainly freezing rain and possibly some sleet Friday night into Saturday morning, NWS forecasters said.
“Heavy, wet snowfall could be seen over the area late Saturday through Sunday as the second half of the system moves through,” NWS said in a weather statement issued Thursday for nearly the entire Upper Peninsula.
“Some power outages will be possible and expect slick roadways,” NWS added.
AccuWeather predicts little snow accumulation for the Iron Mountain area but warns that up to an inch of ice is possible from 8 p.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday.
Temperatures are expected to fall to about 30 degrees overnight Friday with a high of 37 on Saturday. The predicted low Saturday night is 26 while the high Sunday is expected to reach 35 degrees.
NWS in Green Bay, Wis., warned of a chance of thunderstorms Friday into Friday night with the possibility of hail.
