NWS issues storm watch

IRON MOUNTAIN — A winter storm watch will be in effect from late tonight through Thursday morning, with total snow accumulations of 4 to 12 inches in the central Upper Peninsula, the National Weather Service said.

Heavy snow and light freezing rain is possible and blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. Hazardous conditions could impact Wednesday morning and evening commutes, forecasters said.

Winds could gust as high as 40 mph near the shores of the Great Lakes, according to NWS.

For the Iron Mountain area, AccuWeather says 6 to 10 inches of snow — mixed with rain at times — could fall from 6 a.m. Wednesday through 2 a.m. Thursday. Wednesday’s predicted high is 38 degrees with temperatures falling into the low 20s overnight.

Thursday should be mostly sunny, with a high near 37.

Starting at $2.99/week.
