Florence, Marinette counties plan spring road restrictions
FLORENCE, Wis. — The Florence County Highway Department will impose seasonal weight restrictions on all county trunk highways — N, B, C, D, U and NN — beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 11.
The seasonal weight restrictions are for county highways only and are 6 tons per axle, with a maximum of 18 tons gross, said Joe Witynski, Florence County highway commissioners.
Town weight restrictions may vary from town to town.
Highway maintenance vehicles, school buses, emergency public utility vehicles, sewage haulers, refuse haulers and delivery trucks for retail businesses are exempt from the load conditions. Fuel oil haulers may exceed the imposed restrictions by 2 tons per axle.
Propane haulers are exempt if the tank is filled to no more than 50% of its capacity and the gross weight imposed on the highway by the vehicle does not exceed 30,000 pounds for single-rear axle or 40,000 pounds for tandem-rear axle.
These weight restrictions will remain in place until the frost has dissipated and the roads have firmed up, Witynski said.
