Film screening Wednesday in Marquette

MARQUETTE — The Marquette Regional History Center presents the film premiere of “My Sister” by Dan Aho at 6:30 p.m. Eastern time Wednesday.
Negaunee’s Aho, a 2002 Northern Michigan University alumni, has worked as an actor in Chicago and Los Angeles, where he delved into the world of film writing and producing. His latest short film was shot in Marquette County.
“The premise for ‘My Sister’ is loosely inspired by real events. The script was in production, in Los Angeles, on three different occasions, with three different sets of actresses,” he said. “For various reasons it never made it in front of the camera, and it wasn’t picked up again until I relocated back to the Midwest and had eyes to film it in Michigan, specifically in the U.P. The script was re-written. I wanted to use the setting as part of the theme of the story. ‘My Sister’ was shot entirely in the Upper Peninsula. From the shores of Lake Superior, Highway U.S. 41, and various spots in Negaunee. The script was re-written to use the setting and its nature to enhance the theme which became part of the story itself.”
There will be a discussion following the screening with Aho and the cast–Channing native and North Dickinson graduate, Jessica “Red” Bays — and Han Numinen of Marquette.
They star in the 10-minute short film as sisters at odds. They are both graduates of NMU — Bays in 2001 and Numinen in 2024.
Proceeds from this event will help the film move onto the next level as it enters film festivals and support the Marquette Regional History Center. Cost is $20 general admission, $10 student tickets.
