Fatal crash in Marinette County
MARINETTE, Wis. — A Pound, Wis., man was killed Friday night in a crash in the Town of Stephenson.
Marinette County dispatch received a report at 7:52 p.m. that a vehicle had gone into the ditch on West 32nd Road at 49th Road, according to a news release from Marinette County Sheriff Randy Miller.
Investigation showed the driver, 53-year-old Edward J. Van Caster, was eastbound on West 32nd Road when he failed to stop at the stop sign and the vehicle went off the road, eventually hitting a tree. Van Caster, who was not wearing a seat belt, was fatally injured, according to the news release.
Speed is thought to have been a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Assisting at the crash site were the Pound Fire Department and Crivitz Rescue.
