Enjoying open water

The recent warmer weather cleared enough of the ice where Six Mile Lake feeds into Six Mile Creek that a pair of trumpter swans could relax and feed in the sunshine Sunday. These largest of North America’s waterfowl tend to be year-round residents that stay where they can find open water. They and a number of early spring migrants that returned this past weekend might be in for a late blast of winter weather Wednesday on the eve of spring’s arrival Thursday.
