About today’s Daily News — and our phones

Readers might have had a feeling of deja vu looking at today’s Daily News.

The Daily News office — and much of Iron Mountain — lost power about 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

While most of the inside pages had already gone to press in Powers, the front cover, page A-3 and A-5 and the sports pages had not.

Press staff in Powers had to scramble to fill in the missing pages. Hence the return of two sparring moose at the top of page 1-A, along with a repeat of the Isle Royale wildlife study story. Friday’s covers had to be substituted, along with page 5-A and 3-A, to finish off the paper.

It wasn’t a perfect solution but had to do given the situation. Still, we apologize for the repeated pages.

Power has been restored today at the office. However, the internet server remains down. That means the paper has no way to send Tuesday’s pages electronically. Adjustments are being made for that and a Tuesday newspaper will be produced.

But the other factor is: The office phones are not working, as they run through the internet. As soon as service is restored, it will be posted on the website.

Again, we appreciate your patience as we deal with these challenges.
