Snowmobiler killed in UP crash
ONTONAGON — Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in a fatal Ontonagon County snowmobile crash that caused the death of a 36-year-old Wisconsin man late Friday night.
Negaunee Regional Dispatch was notified just after 11 p.m. Friday of a personal injury accident on Trail No. 3 near Federal Forest Road 730 and U.S. 45 in Stannard Township.
Ontonagon County Sheriff’s deputies and emergency medical services personnel initiated life-saving measures on the snowmobiler, who was from Bonduel, Wisconsin, but he was pronounced dead a short while later.
The crash remains under investigation.
SONCO South Ambulance Service, Bruce Crossing Fire Department, Ontonagon County Medical Examiner’s Office, Cane Funeral Home and Lake Gogebic Towing assisted at the crash site.
