Plea entered in traffic death

DYLAN TIRSCHEL
IRON MOUNTAIN — A Kingsford man accused of driving recklessly and causing the death of an 84-year-old woman last March was in court for a plea hearing Tuesday.
Dylan Edward Tirschel, 21, has pleaded no contest in Dickinson County Circuit Court to the felony charge of reckless driving causing death. Tirschel’s attorney, Anthony Cavalieri, cited pending civil litigation as the reason for the no-contest plea.
According to the criminal complaint, just before 7 a.m. on March 11, 2024, Tirschel was driving north on Carpenter Avenue traveling at more than 68 miles per hour when he collided with a vehicle driven by Judy Schillerstrom that was southbound on Carpenter Avenue and had begun making a left hand turn onto F Street. Schillerstrom died as a result of her injuries.
As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors have agreed to a minimum/maximum prison sentence of 13 months. Tirschel had faced up to 15 years on the reckless driving causing death charge.
Tirschel will be back in court April 8 for sentencing and remains free on a $5,000 bond until then.
