No injuries in fire on Mackinac Bridge
MACKINAW CITY — A vehicle fire at the Mackinac Bridge toll plaza temporarily shut down traffic in both directions Monday night, the Michigan Department of Transportation said.
At about 8:45 p.m. Eastern time Monday, a car caught fire while approaching a southbound toll lane, said James Lake of MDOT’s Office of Communications.
For safety, all bridge lanes were closed as emergency crews responded. Firefighters arrived within 10 minutes and successfully extinguished the fire.
Northbound traffic resumed shortly after 9 p.m., with southbound traffic reopening about 20 minutes later, the Petoskey News-Review reported.
No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
