KINGSFORD — Jacobson Heating & Air Conditioning of Kingsford is under new ownership.

Garrett Johnson took over the reins from Gary Jacobson on Jan. 24 after four decades in the heating and cooling business.

The 15-time People’s Choice Award winner remains committed to maintaining its tradition of excellent service they have provided to the community for 40 years.

“Part of what made the business so successful is 24-hour service — that will not change,” Johnson said.

The former owner said he will stay on with the company, ensuring a seamless transition for its customers.

“For now, I’m not going anywhere, just a change in role — I will now be an employee,” Jacobson said, adding that he waited to sell until he found the “right person.”

“We saw Garrett had it in him and has melded right into the role,” Jacobson said.

Johnson’s passion for helping people was a large reason behind purchasing the business. “I care about our customers and want to continue to provide them with good service when they are in need,” he said.

The son of Dave and Danette Johnson of Breitung Township was born and raised in Iron Mountain and graduated from Kingsford High School in 2017. He went on to attend Northern Michigan University, earning an associate degree in HVAC.

“I started my apprenticeship in 2018 at Jacobson’s and have remained with the company since,” Johnson said.

The business specializes in furnaces, boilers, water heaters, air conditioners and fireplaces.

“We provide installation of new equipment or maintenance and repairs for customers,” Johnson said.

He added the company isn’t “brand specific,” as they research the best unit for each individual customer. He adds that systems change over time, and technicians need to be educated on each product.

Jacobson’s main focus is residential work, operating in about a 50-mile radius.

Johnson and Jacobson also will provide free estimates.

Gary Jacobson will continue with radon testing service and can be reached at 906-774-1699 to set up an inspection.

Johnson stressed to his customers that the “fast, reliable 24-hour service 365 days a year, on all equipment they sell” will not change.

As of today, he said he has no plans to make any changes but will possibly look at different things in the future.

In addition to Johnson and Jacobson, the business has 10 full-time employees, which includes Service Department Manager Steve Jacobson and Office Manager Lynn Hart.

The office, at 120 Parkway St. in Kingsford, is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

For estimates, service or any other questions, Jacobson’s can be reached at 906-774-5128.

Starting at $2.99/week.
