IRON MOUNTAIN — Next weekend is free fishing weekend in Michigan.

All fishing license fees will be waived Feb. 15-16 and a Recreation Passport will not be required for entry into state parks and boating access sites. All fishing regulations still apply.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources encourages anyone planning on ice fishing to consult Michigan.gov/IceSafety before any on-ice activities.

The DNR also reminds the public that a meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday at The Windsor Center, 612 W. Adams St., Iron River, to discuss proposed walleye regulation changes for several area lakes.

The changes involve Lake Antoine in Dickinson County and Lake Emily, Hagerman Lake, Lake Mary, Lake Ottawa, Stanley Lake and Winslow Lake in Iron County. These lakes now fall under the existing statewide regulation for walleye — a 15-inch minimum size requirement and a daily possession limit of five fish.

The proposed regulation change would add a protected slot limit. Anglers would not be able to possess any walleye measuring between 18 inches and 23 inches.

Also, the daily possession limit would be three fish. Anglers could possess fish 15 inches to 18 inches and only one walleye 23 inches or greater.

Anyone unable to attend Monday’s in-person meeting is invited to share their comments by completing a form available at https://forms.office.com/g/eLzNEe68ec. Comments shared in person and digitally will be considered.
