FLORENCE, Wis. — Keyes Peak in Florence is hosting the sixth annual side by side uphill truck drag racing event on Saturday, March 8.
Starting at 10 a.m., trucks from around the country will be racing up the snowy slopes to the finish line at the top of Keyes Peak.
There are all types of modified trucks, some with jacked up fuels — step on the gas and race to the top. It’s loud, aggressive and event proceeds go to three volunteer groups: Keyes Peak Ski Hill Committee, Blue Ox Trail Riders and Florence Volunteer Fire Department.
Spectator admission is $10, free for children 12 and under. Gates open at 8 a.m. Food and beverages will be sold on site — so no carry-ins, please.
Spectators can park in the expanded lot north of the Keyes Peak Ski Lodge. When that lot is full, spectators must park at the following locations and catch a free shuttle to the event: Energy Services (next to BP), Great North Bank, Florence High School, Florence Visitor Center, Northern Lites, Annie’s Trading Post, Town of Florence Garage (behind Pat’s) and 101 Bar & Grill.
Four shuttle buses will be running every 15 minutes. For safety reasons, there will be no parking along Highway 101.
A $10,000 raffle is happening as well. Drawing will be at the event at 3 p.m. The tickets are $100 and only 500 will be sold. You need not be present to win.
Tickets are now available at the following locations: Annie’s Trading Post, Northern Lites, Filling Station, Tavern on Central, Chuckwagon, Saloon No. 2, Road House 139, White Tail, Red Line Motor Sports, UP Cycle & Sport, Ride North, PA’s Garage and 101.5 Frog Country.
This year there are seven truck classes and more big-truck races will be held earlier in the day so fans can see the nitro excitement. Truck entry fees vary: A-B $35, C-D $50, G $50 and $100 for the class E and F. There is a guaranteed $15,000 in cash payouts.
There are no cc motor limitations. Cash prizes and trophies will be given at the end of the day to the top finishers.
