Iron Mountain students honored

Iron Mountain students Lillian Olson, left, and Annaliese Lucus received Certificates of Merit from the Michigan Technological University Society of Women Engineers.

IRON MOUNTAIN — Iron Mountain High School senior Annaliese Lucas and junior Lillian Olson have been recognized for their excellence in math and science related studies by receiving a Certificate of Merit from the Michigan Technological University Society of Women Engineers.

They were nominated by their high school math and science instructors at IMHS. The purpose of this recognition from SWE is to help young women be aware of the valuable opportunities available to them in the STEM fields.

This is a distinguished award acknowledged by many colleges and universities as a great achievement.

Both Lucas and Olson exemplify the qualities of strong academics, active school involvement and outstanding performance in both math and sciences. Iron Mountain High School congratulates these young women.

Lucas is the daughter of Melissa and Tim Jaska of Iron Mountain and Jake and Nicole Lucas of Kingsford. Olson is the daughter of Marie Fende of Iron Mountain and Charles Olson of Crystal Falls.
