Holmes to retire as Breitung Schools superintendent

DAVID HOLMES

KINGSFORD — Breitung Township Schools Superintendent David Holmes plans to retire effective July 1 after 26 years in the district, the past four as superintendent.

The school board will have a special meeting Friday morning to review and discuss the search process for a replacement.

Holmes was hired at Breitung Schools in 1999 as a high school social studies teacher. He later was the middle school assistant principal and principal before becoming high school principal in 2019. Two years later, he was chosen for the superintendent’s role.

Holmes said he’s “excited for what’s in the future” for the district, as he believes it’s in a good position. “It’s an outstanding place to work and a great community,” he said, describing his decision to retire as “bittersweet.”

Holmes succeeded Craig Allen, who retired in 2021 after three decades with the district, including 16 as superintendent.

Friday’s board meeting is scheduled for 8:15 a.m. in the media center at Kingsford High School.

Starting at $2.99/week.
