Critical Incident Response Team called out in IM
IRON MOUNTAIN — An Iron Mountain man who is prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition was taken into custody Monday for posting videos of himself on social media with a large quantity of ammunition.
The Iron Mountain Police Department was notified of an individual living in the 500 block of Seventh Street who posted several short videos of himself with the ammunition, according to a news release from Iron Mountain Director of Police and Fire Services Jeff Solka.
The footage showed what looked like a backpack containing mixed ammunition, including .22 caliber, 9mm, 12-gauge shotgun shells and magazines loaded with .308 and .223 caliber rifle ammunition.
The subject, identified as 41-year-old Cory Conn, showed his face in the videos. The Iron Mountain Police Department has previously encountered Conn, Solka said.
Conn was on bond for charges related to carrying a concealed weapon that occurred in August 2024, according to the news release.
The Critical Incident Response Team was activated to safely execute a search warrant to minimize risk to both the public and law enforcement. CIRT is a specialized group trained to handle high-risk situations and consists of officers from the Iron Mountain Police Department, Kingsford Public Safety, Norway Police Department and Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department.
CIRT successfully apprehended Conn outside of his residence. A search turned up the ammunition seen in the video footage.
Conn was arraigned in Dickinson County 95B District Court for possession of weapons and/or ammunition by a prohibited person, a felony with a penalty of up to five years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine.
Unrelated to this incident, Conn was also arraigned on charges related to pointing a laser pointer at airplanes as they were landing at Ford Airport on or around Jan. 16, a felony with a penalty of up to five years and/or a $10,000 fine.
The Iron Mountain Police Department was assisted by the Dickinson County Sheriff’s Department, Kingsford Public Safety and the Norway Police Department. The Iron Mountain Fire Department was notified and was on standby for emergency aid services.
