WWII veteran turns 102

Elmer Alexanderson of Norway celebrated his 102nd birthday Thursday at the Oscar G. Johnson VA Medical Center. Alexanderson was in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 as an aviation engineer during World War II, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, New Guinea and the Philippines. After the war, Alexanderson came back to Norway and worked several jobs, including at Edwards Automotive and Anderson Motors for more than 37 years, according to a January 2023 article in The Daily News when Alexanderson reached 100. He was married to his wife, Julia, for 65 years until her death in 2012; they had two daughters and a son. (Submitted photo)
