Wisconsin woman killed in UP snowmobile crash

MANISTIQUE — A Wisconsin woman has died in a snowmobile crash Friday night in Schoolcraft County.

The crash was reported about 7:20 p.m. Friday on the Haywire Grade Trail near Thunder Lake Road in Inwood Township, according to Michigan State Police from the Manistique outpost.

A preliminary investigation indicated the driver was southbound when she went off the trail on a curve and struck multiple trees.

Some of the driver’s group, traveling further behind, contacted 911 for assistance and began lifesaving efforts, including CPR, before MSP and first responders arrived. Troopers, assisted by snowmobilers in the area, were able to reach the crash site after traveling by snowmobile about 3 miles northwest of Thunder Lake Road. Inwood Township EMS and Alger County EMS also assisted at the crash site.

Despite these efforts, the 46-year-old woman from Dodgeville, Wis., succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

Neither alcohol nor drug use is believed to have been factors in the crash.
