Wildlife fund seeks grant applications
ESCANABA — The Grants Committee of the Upper Peninsula Sustainable Forest and Wildlife Fund, a fund of the Community Foundation of the Upper Peninsula, announced it will be accepting grant applications for the April 2025 grants round.
“Eligible non-profit organizations and sub-divisions of government are eligible to submit applications to the community foundation for grants that meet the guidelines of the UPSF & W Fund. Individuals and organizations/service clubs do not qualify for grant funds,” said Charlie Becker, chair of the foundation.
Some places and projects granted previously:
— U. P. Trappers Association, NTA Kids Cave;
— Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club, YTS Ginzu Groomer;
— Great Lakes Sports & Recreation Club, National Hunting & Fishing Day for youth in the outdoors;
— Big Bay de Noc School District, Big Bay de Noc Black Bear Nature & Hiking Trail;
— Grand Island Township, Remove non-native plants and sustain our forest;
— Alger Conservation District, Chatham Interpretive & Educational Property;
— Ontonagon Soil Conservation District, Youth National Resources Educational Workshop;
— Schoolcraft County, Boardwalk Repair Project;
— Delta County Non-motorized Trails, Days River Nature Trail Boardwalks;
— Hiawatha Land Camp Corporation, Adventure Building;
— Les Cheneaux Community Foundation, trail maps;
— Ontonagon Area Schools, reconstruct five short foot bridges over marsh and water to extend existing trails.
Grant applications can be obtained at the Community Foundation of the Upper Peninsula located at 2420 1st Ave. South Escanaba, Michigan; the foundations website www.cfup.org; by calling the foundation’s office at 1-906-789-5972 or e-mailing office@cfup.org.
Those interested in obtaining a grant must have an original and four copies turned into the community foundation office prior to 3:30 p.m. on April 1.
All those requesting grants from the foundation will be notified by mail as to whether or not they have been successful in receiving their grant request.
Members of the UPSF & W Committee will make their grant recommendations to the full board of trustees of the foundation at their regularly scheduled board meeting at the end of April 2025, for their approval.
All applicants will usually be notified by mail within the first 10-14 days of the following month.
