Three teens recovering after fatal UP crash

GWINN — The Forsyth Township Police Department has released the names of two men killed in a multiple-vehicle crash Friday afternoon on M-35 in Forsyth Township.

The two, both drivers in the crash, were identified as 21-year-old Luke Matthew Kostreva of Negaunee and 37-year-old Jacob Kris Haralson of Gwinn.

“The cause of the accident remains under investigation,” the Forsyth Township Police Department said in a news release. “The three Gwinn teens injured in Friday’s fatal accident on M-35 remain hospitalized and are recovering from their injuries.”

Two of the three teens have critical injuries but all are on their way to recovery, authorities stated.

The three are freshman boys from Gwinn schools, according to a letter sent earlier by Gwinn Area Schools Superintendent Sara Croney.“It is with a heavy heart that we share news of a tragic traffic accident that occurred at approximately 4 p.m. on Friday … involving members of our school community. A devastating car accident has claimed the life of a beloved parent and left three of our ninth grade boys injured. Two have been airlifted to Milwaukee for care, one remains in Marquette. Thankfully, we have been informed that the students are now in stable condition,” the letter said.

The three injured boys all have fundraisers set up to help alleviate financial burdens from their medical care. So far, nearly $50,000 of the $64,000 total goal has been donated in the two days since the creation of the fundraisers.
