Business Spotlight

NIAGARA, Wis. — Great food and service are what The Brick is all about, manager Randy Dessart promises.

“We make sure that the food is well made and they are taken care of,” Dessart said. “We want everyone to come back.”

The Brick has been owned by Joe Moratz since 2015. Moratz purchased the restaurant after retiring from a soda pop distributor.

Formerly known as the Red Brick Inn, Moratz streamlined the name down to The Brick, one of the few changes he made in taking over the business.

Aside from coming in to occasionally do some cooking, Moratz turned the day-to-day operations of The Brick over to Dessart nearly three years ago. Dessart is a retired law enforcement officer and paramedic.

From its old brick building to the dining area with big wooden tables, The Brick provides a more classic restaurant experience, Dessart said.

“We are more of a family-type restaurant, a mom-and-pop place,” Dessart said. “It is not like a big corporation and you can see the way it is inside, with all the old stuff. It is just a little nicer than having regular old tables and stuff like that.”

With its prominent location on Main Street/U.S. 141 in Niagara, The Brick draws customers from all directions, from Dickinson and Marinette counties and beyond. Dessart noted that for travelers coming north, it’s one of the first restaurants they will encounter as they reach the Michigan border.

“We also have people coming as far away as Escanaba and Green Bay for our Sunday buffet,” Dessart said. “People have been riding through before and stopped in and now they decide to take a ride on a Sunday and they come over here.”

The Brick on Sunday offers a brunch buffet from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., with made-to-order omelets, pancakes and waffles. The rest of the buffet features eggs, bacon, cheesy hashbrowns, pasta dishes and broasted chicken — more than 20 items in total.

The Brick’s regular menu is large and varied, but not too big for its 24 employees to handle — and any item can be ordered at any time of day, from the very early morning to later in the evening. Not many area restaurants are open from breakfast to dinner, he noted.

Breakfast has all the staples, from a wide selection of omelets, steak and eggs, pancakes, French toast and waffles. During breakfast, veterans can get two eggs, hashbrowns and toast for a special low price.

Lunchtime fare includes burgers, sandwiches and one of the area’s favorites, pasties.

Pizzas are in demand at The Brick as well. Dessart said the pizzas, like everything else on the menu, are made with fresh ingredients.

Other entrees include steak, ribs, seafood and broasted chicken, even Italian and Mexican favorites.

Holidays can be special at The Brick, too. Thanksgiving and Easter feature a buffet including prime rib. New Year’s Eve, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day have their own specials as well.

The Brick also has the daily specials.

The Brick is open 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. For more information, go online to its web page at http://www.thebrickniagarawi.com.
