Radon test kits available at Florence County Health Department

FLORENCE, Wis.– Have you ever tested your home for radon? Radon is an odorless, colorless, radioactive gas, found naturally in the soil. The gas can seep into homes and buildings through the foundation.

Radon exposure is the leading cause of lung for nonsmokers. Since radon cannot be seen or smelled, the only way to be sure of the amount of radon in a home is to perform a test.

Radon kits are available at the health department for $10. They are also available from most hardware stores. The EPA standard of a safe level in the home is less than 4 picocuries per liter. The test is easy to do with a simple package that is mailed in to test the results.

For more information, go to the Florence County Health Department webpage at http://www.florencecountywi.com/, the state website at www.lowradon.org, or the EPA site at www.epa.gov/radon/pubs/citguide.html.

The Florence County Health Department is on the first floor of the courthouse, or call Alisha Krenzke at 715-528-3426.

Starting at $2.99/week.
