Ishpeming man facing intent to murder charge

ISHPEMING — A 30-year-old Ishpeming man is facing an intent to murder charge after an alleged early morning assault on New Year’s Eve.

Zachary Adam Lewis was arraigned in Marquette County District Court on Thursday. He is being charged with assault with intent to murder after his arrest Tuesday morning.

Ishpeming Police were sent to 551 Jasper St. at approximately 2:40 a.m. Tuesday in response to a report of an assault, according to an Ishpeming Police Department news release. They found a 56-year-old man had been struck in the head with a meat tenderizer.

After investigating the incident, police arrested Lewis after he received treatment for a self-inflicted injury.

Lewis is now lodged at the Marquette County Jail in Marquette.

His bond is set at $500,000 and he is due in Marquette County District Court for a preliminary exam on Jan. 23.
