Chili in the Woods event planned in Florence on Feb. 1

FLORENCE, Wis. — A new event, “Chili in the Woods,” planned on Saturday, Feb. 1, is a rejuvenation of the former Chili Ski-In event that began in 1992 but has been absent for the past few years.

This year’s event will be held in a new location, Lake Emily Trail on County Road D, 1/3 mile east of Highway 101 just south of Florence. This trail system offers a 2.5-mile or 4.2- mile loop options.

The other new twist is this event will take place with or without snow. Attendees can hike, snowshoe or cross country ski depending on the snow levels. Snowshoes will be available to try for free if there is decent snow cover, otherwise hiking will be the better choice.

Attendees can come any time between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to get some exercise and enjoy some free refreshments and camaraderie around a campfire.

Chili, hot dogs on the fire, cookies and beverages will be located in the parking lot just off County Road D. For the safety of all, they request no pets be brought to the event.

This event is sponsored by The Friends of the Florence Wild Rivers Interpretive Center. For questions call the Visitor Center at 715-528-5377, go to events page at www.ExploreFlorenceCounty.com or email Wendy Gehlhoff at wgehlhoff@florencecountywi.gov.

Any donations given at the event will help improve the exhibits and displays at the Wild Rivers Interpretive Center.

Starting at $2.99/week.
