Breitung OKs pay increases

QUINNESEC — Hourly and salaried Breitung Township employees will receive a 3.5% pay increase for 2025 after the township board approved a personnel committee recommendation.

Pay increases for the board and commission members and flat-rate positions such as clerk and treasurer were not included, as they will be discussed at the next personnel committee meeting. While the raise does include hourly firefighters, fire department officers are not included other than when they are at a fire call and receive hourly firefighter pay.

Other personnel committee recommendations approved by the board Monday included moving Deanna Michaud and Deb Hanson from clerical 2 classification to clerical 3. Michaud will also receive an additional week of vacation and all clerical 3 employees will receive the same.

In other business, the board:

— Appointed/reappointed board and commission members. Gary Sparpana and Dave Bilski to three-year terms on the planning commission. Leon Patterson was named to the water and sewer board for a three-year term. Mike Bronzyk and Dave Johnson Jr. were appointed to two-year terms on the board of review, with Leon Patterson designated as an alternate. Sharon Reuter will be the board appointee to the zoning board of appeals and Michael Day and Guy Forstrom will also serve three-year terms.

— Passed a resolution to allow the board of review to accept protests by mail and allow for an alternate start date for the March board of review. The 2025 dates will be March 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and March 12 from 3 to 9 p.m.

— Adopted a resolution that sets eligibility requirements for poverty exemptions for residential property taxes.
