Niagara School District to host Martin Luther King Jr. Day program

NIAGARA, Wis. — Martin Luther King Jr. did not only have a “dream” — he also had a passion for justice and a desire to serve, all with the goal of building “the beloved community.”

Reflecting on the words of Jesus, Dr. King said, “Everyone can be great because everyone can serve.” In response to King’s call for everyone to serve the community, in 1994 Congress made the third Monday of January not only a national holiday in his honor, but a National Day of Service.

Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be on Monday, Jan. 20. On that day the Niagara School District will hold its ninth annual commemoration of the holiday. There will be two identical programs in the school auditorium: 11:32 a.m. to 12:02 p.m. for middle school students, and 12:04 to 12:36 p.m. for high school students. The public is invited to attend either program.

The programs will be presented by a task force of Niagara High School volunteers. This year’s theme is, “Martin Luther King’s Call to Service.” Through narration, documentary film, drama, and video shot right at the school, students and others who attend will be encouraged to follow King’s example of service. Not just for a day, but every day.

Starting at $2.99/week.
